Washington—Feb. 25, 2021—Utilities Technology Council President and CEO Sheryl Osiene-Riggs issued the following statement after the Senate confirmed Jennifer Granholm as the nation’s next Secretary of Energy:

“My congratulations to incoming Secretary Granholm upon her Senate confirmation today as Secretary of Energy. Secretary Granholm will be leading the office at a critical time in the energy and utility industries. Utilities are investing in grid modernization technologies that will allow newer, cleaner, and more efficient forms of energy to be used more widely across the country. Communications networks are vital to this effort, as these systems provide utilities with the ability to safely and quickly respond to natural disasters and emergencies and also deploy renewable and distributed energy resources. In addition, these networks can help bring broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved parts of this country. I look forward to working with Secretary Granholm and her team at the Energy Department on issues and policies that will result in a modernized grid and expanded connectivity.”
