At Region 3 Meeting, Utilities Share Information and Learn About Telecom Technologies
Everyone from the Southeast was there last week for the UTC Region 3 meeting in Jacksonville, FL where attendees took advantage of numerous informative presentations and networking opportunities with sponsors and exhibitors.  Attendance was high and the show floor was packed, confirming the trend of an creasing number and wider variety of participating utilities, attracted in part by an educational program that addressed key topics such as UTC’s strategic plan and opportunities for member engagement, telecom policies affecting utilities, multi-layer networks for operational automation, partnerships between utilities and public safety for optimizing communications during emergency response, fiber leasing and wireless collocation revenue opportunities for utilities, communications trends and strategies to support grid modernization, and case studies on maintenance of battery back-up power for communications reliability and resiliency.  There was also an extensive fiber optic training session for utilities to provide them with hands-on experience about specific issues, such as splicing, enclosures, testing, and overhead/underground installation practices.  Overall, the UTC Region 3 meeting was a great event and everyone enjoyed seeing each other again and learning from and networking with each other.  UTC’s next regional meeting is the Region 6 meeting in Overland Park, KS on April 1-3, and we look forward to seeing you there!
