ABOUT THIS EVENT
Across the country water and gas utilities are evaluating and deploying AMI, and municipalities are increasingly deploying smart city applications. These utility and city stakeholders face mounting pressure from regulators and elected officials to leverage existing telecommunications networks–thereby avoiding the cost and effort required to build a redundant network across the same geography. Simultaneously, electric utilities are exploring the possibility of leveraging their AMI networks for new applications and commodities. For utilities who already built an AMI network, network commercialization can generate revenue, provide customer rate relief, improve community relations and enhance network strength/redundancy at a low cost. This session will provide a case study on California American Water’s industry-leading use of SoCalGas’ AMI network, share tips for utilities who are interested in exploring this service and give regulatory and pricing considerations that can make or break this business model.
