14 Sep UTC’s Riggs Applauds President Biden’s Nomination of DC PSC Chairman Willie Phillips as FERC Commissioner
Washington—Sept. 9, 2021—
Utilities Technology Council (UTC) President & CEO Sheryl Osiene-Riggs issued the following statement regarding President Joe Biden’s nomination of District of Columbia Public Service Commission Chairman Willie L. Phillips as a commissioner to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission:
“On behalf of our members, we applaud President Biden for nominating Chairman Willie Phillips to serve as a commissioner of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). We are certain that Chairman Phillips will help promote electric transmission reliability and clean energy policies. I personally applaud Chairman Willie Phillips for his dedication, expertise, and superior standard of service to the industry and its stakeholders.
“This year’s natural disasters have highlighted the need to create a more resilient and efficient energy grid that utilizes clean, renewable power sources. With our friends and neighbors in Louisiana, Mississippi, and New York still recovering from Hurricane Ida, Chairman Phillips’s nomination to FERC could not have come at a better time for the utility industry to work collaboratively on policy solutions that enhance our electrical grid’s resilience. As an experienced utility regulator in Washington D.C., Chairman Phillips is a perfect choice to help guide FERC’s decisions on cybersecurity standards, environmental justice and hardening of a distributed electricity, oil and gas network.
“Given the current threat from hurricanes and wildfires, creating a resilient yet renewable energy grid is a priority for our utility members. UTC looks forward to working closely with Chairman Phillips, FERC Chairman Glick, and other FERC commissioners to ensure energy utilities are key partners in supporting clean energy policies.”
